"There have been strips of cloth hanging in the tree for as long as I can remember, however these days they have no real significance. I can still rember the time that processions used to be held at the chapel, the processions often came from wijchen. There would be a special evening mass held for the sick and disabled, this usually took place on the third Friday in the month."
By the beginning of the 17th century the chapel was pretty much a ruin and after many more years of neglect and vandalism the monument foundation Baet en Borgh started restoration of the chapel in 1986. The fever tree was almost cut down at that time because it was so close to the building, fortunately this was never carried out. A new tree was planted near to the chapel and this will, in time, take the place of the original fever tree.
